19/20th December 2013: Two Evening Farmers Meetings were organised in farmer’s homes in Shingori and Borgao villages

On the 19th and 20th December 2013 two Evening Meetings were organised by the Sangam’s Organic Farming Team in Shingori village and Borgao village in farmer’s homes to encourage the local village farmers to convert to Organic Farming and introduce Water management schemes. At Shingori village 19 farmers attended the meeting and in Borgao village 29 farmers participated in the evening.

Mr. Suryawanshi (Organic Farming & Watershed Co-ordinator) and Ms. Reena Uikey (Field Co-ordinator) registered all the farmers. Mr.Surywanashi started by introducing himself, Ms. Reena and all the other members of the visiting Sangam team. He then welcomed all the famers and introduced the resource person Mr. Wansakar.

Points covered during the evening by Mr Wanaskar and the Sangam Farming team:-

  1. Disadvantages of chemical farming and conventional farming and its impact upon life
  2. Importance of Organic Fertilizers and Organic Farming methods
  3. Information on crops
  4. Stop the use of Chemical fertilizers to reduce costs
  5. Preparation of Bio pesticides namely Jivamruta and Nibboli Ark
  6. Preparation of varmi culture (varmi compost)
  7. Importance of Water Management
  8. Rain Water harvesting

The meetings were closed by Mr. Suryawanshi with a vote of thanks to the resource persons, the Sangam’s team and the farmers. All the participants in the evening were provided with a meal.
