30th March 2015 : A Continuing Medical Education programme was organised in Gondwananagar Sub Centre under the Mother and Child Health Project

A Continuing Medical Education programme was organised on the 30th March 2015 in Gondwananagar Sub Centre for 38 participants from the local villages under the Mother and Child Health Project.

The subjects covered in the sessions were on Health and Hygiene Care of Pregnant and Lactating Mothers, plus blood testing and tests to check haemoglobin levels and vitamins. There were group discussion on the misconceptions relating to the health and nutrition of the nursing mother and on the various Government Schemes for Mothers and child.

The sessions were taken by Dr. Savita Kale, Ms. Jiwane Asha from the local Government Primary Healthcare Centre at Takalghat and Mrs. Vijaya Shah (Sangam Project Manager).

The main points covered in the sessions were as follows:-

Mother’s first milk is essential for the baby with only mothers milk for the first six months.

From seven months onwards the child should be given home cooked nutritious food along with mother’s milk.

Starting the child on a diet of mashed cereals, vegetables, pulses and fruits in small quantities.

As soon as six months old it is essential to give the child nutritious home cooked food is the best and you can also make use of the food you get from the local Anganwadi centre.

Between 1-2 years introduce your child more to home cooked food like rice/chapatti, green leafy vegetables, orange and yellow fruits, pulses and milk products.

Children should be fed three to four times daily and continue breast feeding till the child is at least two years of age.

The Government of India Health and Welfare Schemes launched in 2005 under the National Rural Health Mission programme with a strong commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality - Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) programme for mother and child.

The programme closed with a Vote of thanks to all the resource persons and participants by Mrs. Usha Bende in charge of Healthcare at Gondwananagar village Sub Centre.

During the Continuing Medical Education programme the Resource Persons and all the participants were provide with a meal.
